Two of my Favorite Internet Articles
When surfing the Internet is a part of your every day routine and you are a nerdy guy interested in technology, you are bound to find articles that are either interesting, or fun to read. I figured since this is my personal technology blog, I might as well share two of my favorites that I've run into over the years - and hopefully you will find some value or entertainment in them as well.
The Attacks on GRC.COM
This is one of the sources that first introduced me to the idea of a denial of service attack, a topic that I found endlessly fascinating at the time, and which I still find very interesting. Steve Gibson is a very knowledgeable person, and he does a great job of recounting his exploration of the underground world of DOS attacks. He brings humor, suspense, and an ease for understanding the subject with this article. If you find this article interesting, also check out the more technologically geared recounting of a second attack on his site by a distributed reflection denial of service attack.
A Group Is Its Own Worst Enemy
The title of this article says a lot about it's contents, it's an in depth analysis of social psychology applied to Internet communities and social software. It is a very interesting analysis of how a group functions online, and the repercussions for the software involved. I was first introduced to this article by Joel Spolsky on his blog Joel on Software. I find that it becomes even more relevant to the Internet community as the web evolves from what we have known it to be, into something where social interaction is a cornerstone, and applications like myspace and facebook are just the beginning.
If you enjoy either of these articles, or if you have any great readings to share with me, I would love to hear a comment from you.
