Fighting Back Against the Spam Mail, One Lawsuit at a Time
I was reading through a news site today and read an interesting story about a Scottish man named Gordon Dick who successfully sued a company for sending spam to his email inbox. He won an equivalent of $1,445 US - a decent sum for one unsolicited email, probably enough to make fighting back worth the time for most people. It turns out that Mr. Dick has decided to take this opportunity to help educate the rest of the spam-receiving public on the best ways to fight back against the spamming companies, and hopefully let everyone win some money. His website, found here: http://www.scotchspam.org.uk/ is a growing resource of how to put together a successful lawsuit for people living in the European Union. I'm sure any motivated citizen of the US could find a similar path through our legal system in order to achieve the same results, and hopefully this and similar stories will begin to motivate people to fight. Actually winning a case may seem far fetched at first, but if you pick the right people to go after and are persistent enough, you will have the spam laws on your side. Now, who to choose out of the 70+ spam messages I get daily...
