My First Personal Computer
When I was a kid my mother was a member of "The Atari Users Group" in town; she was an early adopter when it came to the personal computer. It is only natural then that my first computer was an Atari 400, coincidently also Atari's first computer, thanks to my tech-savvy mother. Since it was really more of a console gaming machine than a PC, my siblings and I only ever used it to play games like Pac-Man, rather than for more traditional PC tasks. Throughout my childhood I was treated to a series of Atari computers, most from the "ST" line. I recall a period of time where we were subscribers to the GEnie online service, billed by the minute, and connected by a 1200 baud modem. This early exposure to Atari computers and computer networks gave me a new hobby that I dove into headfirst, which continues today in a much more expansive way - this blog likely wouldn't exist, and I would likely be on a completely different scholarly path, if it weren't for my Atari inspired computer hobby. Although my mother didn't keep up with her computer hobbying after Atari fell off the radar, I have her to thank for my expertise, knowledge, and enjoyment of computer technology - thanks mom!
This post was inspired by the theme, "My First ______", for the blogging carnival over at 2kbloggers.
