My First Day

Like most "first day" experiences, I was a bit nervous about starting my new job yesterday, but that quickly dissolved as I jumped right into things. My day was a bit scattered, but I did accomplish a lot. The biggest task I had was to dissect some sloppy PHP code on an existing site to try and fix a few errors. The task took longer than I expected, because I had to do a lot of analysis on the code structure in order to find my bearings, but I was able to fix the problems. The time went fast, the activities were engaging, and my new boss told me that I did well - so I am off to a really good start so far. Also, it seems as though there is a lot more opportunity for work that I first imagined at this job, and I think I will find myself moving quickly from a few hours a week towards full time status - maybe by the start of next year. If things stay on track, I think I will be able to make myself an important part of this organization. The only downside so far is, my mind has been so distracted by a new job that all of my other projects have been on hold, and I feel like I am losing touch with some of them. I am sure things will even out over time, and I will find a way to balance my time.
