Homeless Man

My good friend and I have been talking for years about creating a role-playing computer game called "Homeless Man" - we've even started the attempt a few times in the past, but it always fizzles out. The dream of many computer science students is to break into the gaming industry, and while I've always thought about it, I've seen gaming for me as more of a hobby or an entertainment, and not a career. Despite this, we've recently been talking about once again starting up on our project, and we've been looking into game-building software. We figure that if we don't try and do everything ourselves and have a bit of help from a game-builder the first time around, we might even get somewhere this time. So, in addition to "find an entry level CS job," "write more blog entries," "build a website," and "upgrade my sister's computer," I am adding "finally create Homeless Man" to my task list, wish us luck. Has anyone reading this ever started or finished creating a computer game? If so, tell us about it.

Comments:

A few others and myself have started, on three occasions, a computer game. The first went far, actually made beta - but collapsed because of bugs and we didn't know what we were doing. The second went nowhere. The third has an actual design and interface, but has stalled because the lead programmer has become busy with real-life projects and tragedies. It is easy for a non-funded game to turn into vapourware. Though reading your post certainly has filled me with inspiration to finish the game, though I'm sure that will dissipate in the next few hours. I suppose I could take over the project, but my programming knowledge is minimal as is the other law student involved. The lead must remain, long live the lead! Sadly, you can only whip the lead programmer so much before you sucumb to exhaustion.

Glad to hear that our project has already been a little bit inspiring Fiona. I hope for your sake that the project continues on in the future, although the lead programmer sometimes just can't be whipped into shape ;)
