Google Buys Everything!
Back when I started blogging one of my first priorities was to implement a feed so people could easily and conveniently check up on my site. The biggest thing in the feed world is a service called Feedburner, which allows a user to track statistics about their feed, so I of course started an account to go along with my feed. Over the past few days I have been unable to get Feedburner to ping my site, which means my most recent post is not included in my "burned" feed, and people aren't seeing that I've updated. I still haven't figured out what the problem is, but I did log into the Feedburner site to try and find some help and was immediately sidetracked by the news that Feedburner was acquired by Google. Is it me or does it seem that Google buys everything? - it seems crazy sometimes. Anyone with a good service or a cool new product gets snatched up by Google - I guess it's good for the struggling company to get the backing of a tech Goliath, and it's good for Google to eliminate competition and build a diverse base of products, but is it good for innovation and competition? I know I'm not thinking it through all the way, but my first impression of this business tactic is that it will eventually cause a slowdown in technological progression, and will likely eventually hurt Google. Now, is Google's acquisition of Feedburner the reason behind my feed's update problem? Probably not, but until I find the real cause I think I'll blame them just for fun.

Thanks for checking into it Eric, I appreciate that a lot - after writing this post I found help on the Feedburner forum, it seems that my feed wasn't validating because I had the ampersand character in the entry content - I'm not sure why it's not allowed in there, but once it was removed I was once again validating again and the ping worked fine.
